Profiles of School and District Improvement
The superintendents of consistently improving districts in each state describe the actions their districts have taken to produce demonstrable improvement in their scores on state assessments in reading and mathematics over a 3 or 4 year period. For each state, three districts are profiled—one large district, one medium-sized district, and one small district.
Database of District Profiles with Query Options - ADI's Selection Criteria
The Academic Development Institute (ADI) selects consistently improving districts and then asks the superintendents of the districts to complete a survey describing their improvement strategies. ADI uses the following criteria to select the districts:
• At least 35% of students receiving free or reduced lunch
• At least 500 students in district (exception made in some states)
• Gains in reading and mathematics on state assessment over 4 years (3 years when state data is not available for fourth year)
ADI divides the districts in the state into thirds based on enrollment to select one district from each enrollment category—large, medium, and small. A team of three former state and district testing directors then selects the districts, taking into account the number and percentage of NCLB student subgroups that improved as well as overall improvement in reading and mathematics.
