Site Visits
The primary goal of the ADI Technical Assistance Site Visits is to provide programs with a way to focus on program improvement and enhance program quality. It provides programs with resources to meet the PAT Quality Standards, reinforces a continuous improvement approach by addressing areas in need of improvement, and seeks to build capacity within programs at multiple levels (supervisors, parent educators, and support staff). Even programs that consistently provide quality services will find opportunities for improvement revealed through self-assessment and outside feedback.
Three levels of site visits are offered: Orientation, Implementation, and Quality Standards Self-Assessment. The Orientation Visit is for programs new to PAT or for existing PAT programs that have a new supervisor. The Orientation Site Visit typically lasts 2 hours. The visit includes exploring the ADI and PATNC websites, information about the PAT Quality Standards, professional development opportunities, an overview of the PAT Supervisor’s Guide, the PAT Annual Program Report., and the PAT implementation plan are also discussed.
The Implementation Site Visit is a half- day visit and includes the observation of a personal visit or a PAT group meeting. The Implementation Visit is designed as a professional development opportunity and counts towards PAT certification. Both parent educators and their supervisors are included in the visit. Prior to the visit, the supervisor completes a checklist based on PAT quality indicators, and the parent educator completes the PAT Parent Educator Self-Assessment Form. During the visit, the PAT consultant , observes either a personal visit or group meeting, and then provides feedback on the observation. to the parent educator. During the feedback session, the parent educator and PAT consultant discuss any concerns the parent educator has; identify strengths, areas for growth, and strategies for strengthening the personal visit or group meeting. After the visit, ADI forwards a PAT Technical Assistance Summary Report to the parent educator.
The Quality Standards Site Visit (1½-2 days), is designed for programs in their 3rd+ year of implementation and introduces the program to a more in-depth self-assessment process in two areas: Personal Visit and Program Management. This TA visit requires the program to utilize the PAT standards and self-assessment workbook to review the Personal Visit and Program Management components of the program. The program must also survey parents for feedback about the services they receive. The PAT consultant guides the program supervisor through the self-assessment process. During the site visit the consultants meet with all staff members, observe home visits, conduct a program management interview, and a record keeping/materials review. Based on information gleaned from the self-assessment documents and the on-site activities, the consultants assist program staff in exploring areas to strengthen the program and in developing goals and strategies for improvement. After the visit, a report detailing the site visit activities, program strengths, areas for improvement, and strategies for improvement is sent to the program.
